In Memory of Mara

I'm posting this as a small tribute to a little girl who passed away in our stake this week to brain cancer. Mara Adams (NO relation to us - just family friends) was diagnosed about 11 months ago with a DIPG, or an inoperable glioma tumor on her brainstem. Monday Sept. 22, at 8:12 am, she left the Earth to return to our Heavenly Father.

Her services were today, and were beautiful and comforting. People on "Mara's Team" stayed up very late putting thousands of pink and purple ribbons along the five miles of roadside between Mara's house and the church.

I'm finding that even though we have strong testimonies of the plan of salvation, the Atonement, and the power of the Resurrection, it's still hard to part with such a sweet little girl. I can't imagine what her parents are feeling, or what it must be like to have to go through this trial. They are truly a wonderful family and very kind, loving parents.

I wanted to share her website and blog with you, because it's very touching and uplifting, even though you'll need boxes of Kleenex:

There's also a lovely pictorial of Mara someone has put together on YouTube:

She was a lovely, courageous, and spirited little girl who loved life, and is resting now in the Celestial Kingdom. I am so grateful for the doctrine of eternal families, and for the sealing powers that ensure we can be together forever.

Thank you for posting about this. I attended the services today as well and haven't quite been able to find the words to describe it. Certainly not as elegantly as you have here. What an amazing family they are.

I don't know the Adams personally, but I've been following their story on their blog. I can't even imagine. I drove up to the church during the funeral to drop off a salad, and the purple balloons were so touching to see. It made me cry. What better way to send a little spirit home than with balloons?
